Polyphenols, the compound found in red wine that is thought to help prevent heart vessel disease, may one day be used in medicated heart stents. A recent study on animal suggest the compound, Polyphonol, may be beneficial when included in heart stent, a device used to keep an artery in the heart open.

Interstim and Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Interstim, an FDA approved treatment for urinary urgency and frequency that stimulates the sacral nerve near the tailbone to help restore control of the urinary bladder muscle. has been granted indication in the treatment of Irritable Bowel Syndrome according to sources. An announcement is expected soon. Till this is confirmed by the FDA and Medtronic, this information should be considered preliminary.

ACOG, American College of Obstetrics & Gynecology, Encourages Ob-Gyns to Recommend Colorectal Screening

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) has released a committee opinion encouraging obstetrician-gynecologists to recommend colorectal cancer screening for women, which is diagnosed in more women than all gynecologic cancers combined. Drinking Coffee Linked to Lower Stroke Risk in Women

Drinking 1 to 5 cups of coffee a day was associated with a 22% to 25% lower risk for stroke in a large group of Swedish women followed up for an average of about 10 years, according to research released today.
