Go Nuts! Eating Almonds, Walnuts, Pecans, and Other Nuts Improves……
A recently published study in the Archives of Internal Medicine found that the consumption of nuts of nearly any type improved blood lipid levels, lowering total and LDL-cholesterol levels thus improving lipid ratios. The study goes on to state that nut consumption lowers coronary heart disease risk and offers support for the inclusion of nuts in therapeutic dietary interventions to improve blood lipid levels.
The effect of consuming nuts was similar in men and women and across different age groups and was observed regardless of the specific nut consumed. “The results, according to the study, confirm that increasing the consumption of nuts as part of an otherwise prudent diet can be expected to favorably affect cholesterol and potentially lower the risk of coronary heart disease.
So, Go Nuts! But remember, as with most things, moderation is essential.
