he term Bioidentical Hormones is not a medical term, it is a marketing term used to imply an exact copy of the hormones produced in the body. Providers of these compounds often claim they are “A natural, safer alternative to prescription drugs, Can help with weight loss, Prevent Alzheimer’s” and many others unfounded benefits. In addition, these providers often suggest that Bioidentical Hormones can only be obtained from a compounding pharmacy.

The fact is that there are many FDA-approved bioidentical hormone products available in the U.S. today. In fact, they have been available in the U.S. since 1975!

Could a test predict menopause?

Could doctors one day use a blood test to predict decades in advance when women will go into menopause? Research to be presented at a European fertility conference in Rome could be a first step toward developing a tool to help women decide when they can expect to become menopausal. Fertility specialists are particularly interested in the study.

Are doctors over-treating breast cancer?

At a breast cancer conference March 2010 in Barcelona, experts discussed how to implement mammogram screening programs across Europe, balancing fighting cancer with the goal of targeting only those women who need to be screened.

The conferences findings on mammograms ignited a fierce debate in the United States when an influential panel recommended scaling back screening programs to begin at age 50 instead of 40 — guidelines very close to those already in Europe.
